Creating Safety for Pets; and Peace for Survivors

Purple Paws for Peace exists so survivors never have to choose between their own safety and the safety of a beloved pet. Domestic violence often forces impossible decisions, and many survivors delay leaving because they fear what will happen to their animals. By providing secure, trauma‑informed care for pets, we remove one of the biggest barriers that keeps survivors from seeking help.

Animals in our care stay in confidential, safe housing with gentle handling, daily enrichment, and veterinary support. We understand the stress pets experience during crisis, so we create calm, predictable routines that help them feel protected while their person focuses on healing.

Our work is rooted in collaboration. We partner with domestic violence shelters, advocates, law enforcement, and community organizations to ensure survivors have a clear, compassionate pathway to safety. Every case is handled with respect, confidentiality, and a commitment to honoring both the survivor’s and the animal’s emotional needs.

We support survivors of all genders, backgrounds, and identities — and the pets they love, whether furry, feathered, or scaled. Our mission is grounded in dignity, compassion, and survivor autonomy.

Purple Paws for Peace received federal 501(c)(3) tax‑exempt status in 2026, allowing us to accept tax‑deductible donations, apply for grants, and expand our services to survivors and their pets.
